Patrick Lencioni wrote The Ideal Team Player which is a leadership fable. The main take away is that the ideal team player is a combination of humble, hungry, and smart.
In sports we are experiencing a clear shift from a collectivist to an individualistic approach from our athletes. It is common for players to be more concerned with their personal success than that of the team.
It is well worth to consider how you can recruit and develop the three virtues (humble, hungry, smart) in your team.

3v2 on both sides. Advance to 4v3 and 5v4.
When short-handed team gets puck they clear it to their teammates on the power play on the other side.
